Milyonlar (Millions)

• 1,000,000 → one million (bir milyon)
• 2,000,000 → two million (iki milyon)
• 10,000,000 → ten million (on milyon)
• 50,000,000 → fifty million (elli milyon)

Örnek:

• 1,250,000 = one million two hundred fifty thousand (bir milyon iki yüz elli bin)
• 10,300,000 = ten million three hundred thousand (on milyon üç yüz bin)

Dikkat Edilecek Noktalar

1. Hundred / Thousand / Million → Tek başına -s almaz:
   • five hundred people (beş yüz kişi)
   • five hundreds people (yanlış)
2. Ama çokluğu belirtmek için -s + “of” kullanılabilir:
   • hundreds of people (yüzlerce insan)
   • thousands of cars (binlerce araba)
   • millions of stars (milyonlarca yıldız)
3. Virgül kullanımı

• İngilizce’de 1,000 (bin) şeklinde yazılır, Türkçe’deki gibi “1.000” değil.
• Nokta decimal (ondalık) için kullanılır:
  • 1,500.50 = one thousand five hundred point five zero

Telefon Numaraları (Phone Numbers)

İngilizce’de telefon numaraları tek tek rakamlar halinde okunur. Türkçe’de alışkanlık olarak “beş yüz kırk iki” gibi üçlü gruplarla söylüyoruz ama İngilizce’de bu şekilde yan yana okumak yanlış olur.

0 Sayısının Okunuşu

• Telefon numaralarında 0 (zero) genellikle oh (/ou/) olarak okunur.
• Daha resmi ya da net olmak istenirse zero denebilir.

Örnek:

• 407 → four oh seven
• 502 → five oh two

Numaraların Okunuşu

• Rakamlar tek tek söylenir:
  • 555 → five five five
  • 234 → two three four
  • 789 → seven eight nine
• Uzun numaralarda rakamlar genelde 2’li veya 3’lü gruplara bölünerek okunur, ama her rakam ayrı söylenir.

Örnek:

• 555-234-789 → five five five, two three four, seven eight nine
• 0542 666 9999 → zero five four two, six six six, nine nine nine nine

Dikkat!

Türkçe’de biz genelde rakamları bütün olarak söyleriz:

• 542 = “beş yüz kırk iki”

Ama İngilizce’de bu doğru değildir. Her rakam ayrı okunur:

• 542 = five four two (✔)
• ❌ “five hundred forty-two” (telefon numarası için yanlış)

Çift Sayılar (Double)

• Çok tekrarlanan numaralar kolaylık olsun diye double denebilir:
  • 66 → double six
  • 999 → triple nine

Örnek:

• 0542 666 9999 → zero five four two, triple six, triple nine
• “My number is five five five, two three four, seven eight nine.”
• “Call me at zero five four two, triple six, triple nine.”
• “The emergency number is one one two.”
• Telefon numaraları her rakam tek tek okunur.
• 0 genellikle oh denir.
• Tekrarlayan rakamlarda double veya triple kullanılabilir.
• Türkçe’deki gibi “beş yüz kırk iki” denmez → five four two denir.

Sıra Sayıları (Ordinal Numbers)

Ordinal numbers, İngilizce’de “kaçıncı?” sorusuna cevap verir. Türkçedeki karşılığı sıra sayılarıdır: birinci, ikinci, üçüncü, dördüncü…

Kullanım alanları:

• Tarihler → the first of May (1 Mayıs)
• Bina katları → the second floor (2. kat)
• Yarışlar → He finished third. (Üçüncü bitirdi.)
• Sıralamalar → the fifth student (5. öğrenci)

Yazılış Kuralları

1. Sayının sonuna genellikle -th eklenir:

• 4 → four → fourth
• 6 → six → sixth
• 10 → ten → tenth

2. Özel durumlar:

• 1 → first (birinci)
• 2 → second (ikinci)
• 3 → third (üçüncü)
• 5 → five → fifth (e harfi düşer)
• 8 → eight → eighth (t eklenir)
• 9 → nine → ninth (e düşer)
• 12 → twelve → twelfth (f → v değişir)

Temel Fark

İngilizce’de tarih yazımında İngiliz İngilizcesi (UK) ve Amerikan İngilizcesi (US) arasında küçük bir sıra farkı vardır:

• UK (British English) → day + month + year
• US (American English) → month + day + year

Örnek:

• UK: 16 September 2025 → the sixteenth of September, twenty twenty-five
• US: September 16, 2025 → September sixteenth, twenty twenty-five

Günlerin (Days) Yazılışı

• Gün (day) ordinal number (sıra sayısı) ile söylenir:
  • 1 → the first
  • 2 → the second
  • 3 → the third
  • 4 → the fourth
  • …
  • 21 → the twenty-first
  • 31 → the thirty-first

Yazıda “th, st, nd, rd” ekleri kısaltma olarak kullanılır:

Kesirler (Fractions)

Fractions İngilizce’de kesirleri ifade etmek için kullanılır.

• Üst sayı (pay / numerator) → cardinal number (one, two, three…)
• Alt sayı (payda / denominator) → ordinal number (second, third, fourth…)

• ½ → one half (yarım)
• ⅓ → one third (üçte bir)
• ¼ → one quarter / one fourth (dörtte bir)
• ⅔ → two thirds (üçte iki)
• ¾ → three quarters (dörtte üç)
• ⅕ → one fifth (beşte bir)
• ⅙ → one sixth (altıda bir)

Çoğul Kuralı

Eğer pay (üst) 1’den büyükse, payda çoğul yapılır:

Özel Durumlar

• ½ genelde half ile ifade edilir:
  • half a kilo = yarım kilo
  • one and a half hours = bir buçuk saat
• ¼ için hem a quarter hem de a fourth denebilir.
  • a quarter of an hour = 15 dakika
• ¾ → three quarters (çoğunlukla böyle söylenir).

Karma Sayılar (Mixed Numbers)

Tam sayı + kesir → birlikte okunur:

• 1 ½ = one and a half
• 2 ⅓ = two and one third
• 4 ¾ = four and three quarters

• “of” genellikle kullanılır: two thirds of the people.
• “Half” ifadesi “of” ile de kullanılabilir: half of the cake.
• Matematiksel okunuşta “over” da kullanılabilir:
  • ¾ = three over four
